Heavily armed policemen have taken over the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja.
This action, which was done on Sunday,
was said to have been carried out by the police to prevent the breakdown
of law and order at the secretariat.
A former Governor of Borno State, Sen.
Ali Modu Sheriff, was removed by members of the party as the national
chairman in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Saturday.
Sheriff however described the action of those that removed him and members of the National Working Committee was a nullity.
He said all the actions taken at the party’s national convention which he had postponed were null and void.
However, our correspondent gathered that
the policemen were drafted to the secretariat to prevent Sheriff and
some members of his sacked NWC from gaining entrance to the secretariat.
