The Governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomhole, while speaking on the recently concluded governorship election, expressed satisfaction at its outcome.

Oshiomhole said the Godwin Obaseki’s victory is a win against the tradition of godfatherism in Edo state

He said "We have humbled Chief Tom Ikimi even in the local government he claimed to have created. We defeated Chief Raymond Dokpesi in his polling unit, his Ward and his local government. That reassures that the ruthless deployment of media machinery is not enough to distort the will of Edo people to determine their choice.”

Uhumwangho said the election was free and fair “and I believe that the better candidate won”. “We are 100 per cent happy that the candidate who the Edo NUT endorsed won the governorship race. “I believe that he will continue the good work that Gov. Adams Oshiomhole has started and will do better,” he said. He, however, called on the governor- elect not to renege on his electoral promises to revamp the education sector in the state. INEC had declared Mr Godwin Obaseki of the APC as winner of the election, who polled 319,483 votes to defeat Mr Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the PDP, who scored 253,173 votes.

The presence of the about 25,000 policemen deployed to the state is being felt, as over five thousand security operatives were sited at the premises of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at Aduwawa, Benin City. Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room has called on the political parties participating in the election to conduct themselves in a manner that does not encourage violence by their supporters, as they would be held liable for their activities that trigger violence.
