Publishing names of looters’ll jeopardise investigation -Osinbajo....like seriuoslly

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday said the Federal Government refrained from publishing names of those it recovered looted funds from in order not to jeopardise investigation.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, the Vice-President spoke during a meeting he had at the Presidential Villa, Abuja with a delegation of the European Union led by the EU Ambassador in Nigeria, Mr. Michel Arrion.

On the list published by the Federal Government on Saturday, the administration said it had recovered a total of N115.7bn cash, while assets worth over N1.9tn had been frozen in one year.

In a statement by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the government said the recoveries were made between May 29, 2015 and May 25, 2016.

The government gave the breakdown of the loot as N78,325,354,631.82; $185,119,584.61; £3,508,355.46 and €11, 250.

A conversion of the funds using the official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Nigeria, showed that the amount adds up to N115,792,760,499.

Many individuals and groups had criticised the government for not publishing the names of those the monies were recovered from.

But Osinbajo said, “We have released the list of recovered loot, we know people are asking for the names, but releasing the names may jeopardise ongoing investigations.”

The Senior Pastor of Champions Royal Assembly, Kubwa, Abuja, Joshua Iginla, on Sunday gave out 32 cars out of which were 16 SUVs to celebrate his birthday.

Mr. Iginla also gave out money running into several millions of naira to the aged, widows, orphanages and scholarships to orphans from nursery school to university.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that six Nollywood actors and actresses got Hummer jeep 3 series, Mercedes G-Wagon and Mercedes CLS 550.

They include Jide Kosoko, Francis Duru, Alex Usifo, Ngozi Osondu, Thelma Nwosu and Sunday Omobolanle, popularly known as Babaluwe.

Artisans got generators and cash gifts while the widows got deep freezers, rice and cash gifts ranging from N150,000 to N1.5 million.

Nigeria Ranked 4th In List Of Top 30 Most Powerful Militaries In Africa....Hmmmm...some good report.

According to an index released by Global Firepower (GFP) measuring a government’s military strength, Nigeria has been ranked as the 4th country with the most powerful military in Africa.

The list of top 30 countries with the most powerful military in Africa has Egypt topping the list, followed by Algeria, Ethiopia, Nigeria and South Africa.

The list is drawn based on the country that has the most manpower, equipment which covers the air, land, naval power and the petroleum to sustain its army among other factors.

The ranking system focuses on the diversity of weapons systems and provides bonuses and penalties for things like nuclear arms, diversity of force structures, and alliances (like NATO).

Meanwhile, the most powerful military in the world is the United States, followed by Russia, China, India and the UK.

US has been the world’s strongest military since 1945.

Russia Unfazed By U.S. Lifting Embargo On Arms Sales To Vietnam....Hmmmm....!

The lifting of a decades-old U.S. arms embargo on Vietnam will not affect Russia’s weapons sale to the Southeast Asian country, a senior Russian military official said on Monday.

Anatoly Punchuk, deputy head of Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, the country’s body supervising military exports, told newsmen in Moscow.

“Our relations with Vietnam are of a strategic nature, and their further development will depend on the Vietnamese leadership.

“The lifting of the embargo will not affect the export of Russian weapons,’’ Punchuk said.

During his ongoing three-day visit to Vietnam, U.S. President Barack Obama announced Washington’s decision to completely remove its ban on sales of lethal weapons to Hanoi, one of the last major vestiges of the Vietnam War era.

Report says Vietnam is one of the largest buyers of Russian weapons, and imports a broad range of Russian armaments ranging from submarines and frigates to multi-functional warplanes.
